A prayer of faith avails much. James 5:15
There are so many books on prayer today and we are constantly reminded that prayer changes things. But why is it so hard to do it. What makes it so difficult to pray.
There are so many different reasons like, lack of time, self -reliance, thinking our issues are not important enough or just a lack of faith, to name a few.
I’m sure we can identify with some of those and of course, we rationalize in our mind why we don’t pray and we can make a really good argument about it. But we cannot deny that many of us have had our prayers answered and know others who have had also. Deep down we know that God indeed does answer prayer.
I think the first hurdle to get over is to pray to God in Jesus name. Getting past all the obstacles that keep us from going to him and telling him all about it. Not because he doesn’t know but because you are trusting him with a solution to the problem.
When my youngest daughter got sick I felt so helpless to help her. I took her to doctor after doctor trying to find a solution to her failing health. Sure I prayed, But I was also looking for answers in so many other directions. I think when you are hit with devastating circumstances it knocks you off balance if your eyes are not focused completely on God. I was in a state of panic I had to pull from everything I knew about God and his truth to help me to believe and then trust in his power to help my little girl.
Needless to say, it was a very challenging time that not only kept me on my knees but it also showed me the power of God step by step. It took almost a year for us to get a diagnosis and a solution to her health problems but God bought her through it. During that time I have seen the hand of God carry us through every step. Each one leading us to the next and closer to our solution. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. But the lessons of faith I don’t regret. We had our church family praying also and God showed us his mighty power to save. This also taught me that it’s okay to ask for the prayers of the saints of God. People you know will take your case seriously before God. We are sometimes taught to be private with our business but as a Christian, it is important to know that it’s okay to have a prayer group or prayer partner to agree with in prayer. It’s very powerful and not only binds us together in love but it also builds our faith in God together. Sometimes you just need that extra support when you are discouraged or when your faith is weak. My prayer group and family was a great comfort and support to us during that time. (James 5:14, Matt.18:19)
It’s all about faith in God.
When you pray do you believe that God can do what you ask or give you a solution to your problem?
That is a key factor in getting an answer to your prayer. I will say like many, I believe God can do anything but still ask the question; Will he? I think with every experience we face God has already given us the victory. But sometimes we don’t attain it because of our own unbelief.
God’s word Says:
The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man avails much James 5:16
The prayer of Faith will heal the sick. James 5:15
But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting. James 1:6a
..That if two of you shall agree on earth touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father. Matt 18:19
Acting on your faith.
Faith without works is dead. James 2:14-26
Do you believe God will answer your prayers? Then by faith, you will follow him based on that belief. But if you don’t believe you will do nothing.
To give you an example of this: When we were going through treatment for my daughter’s condition she had been miraculously scheduled for surgery within weeks with the only doctor in California that could treat her, due to a last minute cancelation. Her surgery was a success. We praised God. But a few months later I felt my faith was being tested again because her symptoms came back. We believed God would heal her and to have to deal with this again put me into prayer combat mode. I didn’t have to relearn that lesson. I prayed to God again and asked for a solution. The Doctor was away at a convention and was on his way out of the country so I was told to talk to another doctor since her surgery was already done. I prayed to God that he would work things out for my daughter again and her surgeon contacted me within that week to bring her in to see him before he left out of the country. We did and they scheduled an emergency surgery the next day to do more work. I was told because of her age the first surgery didn’t work. So this time her surgeon was praying with us that God would guide him. God answered our prayers again and it brought us to our knees in gratitude for his faithfulness. She has been symptom-free now for almost a year and is leading a healthy life, thanks to God and those doctors and nurses that he lead us to. Needless to say, if I would have just sat there just believing that God would heal my daughter and not putting action with it to follow him for a solution I don’t think the outcome would have been the same.
I can think of so many failures I’ve experienced just because I have not put my faith into action. We can pray all day and ask God to help us but if we don’t lift a finger in obedient action we are not putting ourselves in the position to receive the blessing. Example: If you pray for a certain job but fail to put in an application. But by faith you put in the application, go through the steps to qualify and leave the outcome to God. If it’s for you, it’s yours.
As simple as it sounds it happens far too often and we blame God for not coming through. God answers our prayers and sometimes not the way we expect. I was hoping for instant healing of my daughter but through the months of following his direction, he led us to the victory months later.
Having a receivers mindset:
Having Faith in God means to know without question that whatever He answers he knows what is best. Walking in trust and expectation we seek the answers to our prayers. Asking, seeking and knocking and the doors will be open to us. (Matt 7:7)
What do you desire? Ask God, Seek his will and Knock, do whatever he tells you to do. He will give you an answer to your prayer according to his will. (1 John 5:14-15)
According to your faith be it done unto you. (Matt 9:29)
